Just an idea I had like 3 minutes ago.

A random event where 5 things are randomly emagged.

We already have ion storms that screw up the AI’s laws. It doesn’t really make much sense that nothing else is affected, but it’s also kinda dumb to irreparably break something with the emag effect totally at random...

Maybe depending on the thing, it fixes itself later. (maybe just for all emag not just this) like things directly connected to the AI or the mainframe could fix themself after a certain amount of time. Buddies and bots are unaffected due to the emag disconnecting them from the mainframe, but maybe when charging they are reset.

hardly related to the event unless we make the fixing only happen from this event. or a two-person head-only button that resets certain devices of their emagged state (i.e. doors, any borgs that happen to be in a charger at the time, anything plugged in)

like the event idea also

make EMP-Emagged things reset by turning them off and then on again. Cycle the main breaker of that room's APC to do it. That way its quirky, but all it takes is one engineer ( or cooperative AI ) to fix
