If the captain (or whoever has the nuke disc) uses telsci to go to one of the ~~~adventure~~~ areas the disk doesn't reappear on station and pinpointers point off to a random spot in space near the station. Couple this with accidentally (read: purposely) blowing up the telepad there's no way to get the disc back unless the captain is gibbed or whatever.
