Putting a plasma can in the atmos of a pod will instant, one-sec kill you.

Pretty much any other time you are exposed to plasma you are breathing low contamination levels, mixed in with the normal air.
Breathing a bit of chlorine gas is horrible but surviveable - filling your lungs with pure chlorine gas would kill you outright too.
