Automats - Midaychi - 07-20-2015 This is a suggestion for adding an automat machine to botany, cargo, mechanics, and the kitchen/bar (as well as anywhere else that makes sense) that the employees of such departments can use to peddle their goods automatically to other players that investigate the automat. Basically, fancy player-driven vending machines. What is an automat? Automats were originally fast food restaurants that would consist of a number of automat machines with cubbies, and staff working to stock them in a room behind. A person could choose a cubby, pay the fee, and open the cubby to get the item inside. Nowadays, they're used for basically anything you could fit in. Those vending machines with the spinning rings that dispense bottles and bags of chips and socks are a spinoff of automat machines. The suggestion for goon: A two-part machine, one part is a console (usually placed inside the department), and the other part is the vending machine(Usually placed in a wall near the console, in a place reachable by the public) The idea is that you can choose to link your id into the machine, insert objects and set a price (including free). If anyone then visited the vending part of the machine, they could open it to view the stock, and use their pin to purchase things with their account. Kitchen/bar could peddle their food/drink (or just put it in there listed for free, as a convenience thing), as could botany and their plants/reefer/whatever, and cargo could order/salvage things from space to put for sale, science could sell artifacts and cat drugs, whatever. Possibly add one to a public access area so assistants can sell objects they legitimately acquired. -- An idea for how the process/interface could work: Person opens the console, and logs in with their id. They'd come up with a few buttons. One would open up another slot that would let them insert any holdable object, and let them register it. They could then customize the price (0, being free, and #inf being as high as you want to set it), and click vend to finalize the object and put it in the vending machine interface. The object goes into stasis (So tank transfer bombs couldn't be set off until they were vended out again, etc), and can be then purchased by anyone visiting the machine. Accounts linked to the item can also cancel the vending, and get the item back from the console if logged in. Optional things they could also do before clicking vend: -Add other accounts and set the percent split (so if joe bob wants to be on the item sale too, have him link his id and give him 30%) -Add a password, and you can choose whether the object only shows up if the correct password is entered, or if entering the password gives you a set discount on the item. (You could set a 10% discount, and have word of mouth advertising, or set your secret reefer or cat drugs to be passworded so it doesn't show up unless someone knows the secret code) -Select if you want the machine to advertise the object. This causes a percentage tax of the money from the purchase to go to centcom when the object is purchased, and requires a credit deposit (that you get back when the object is vended or ejected) If you enable advertising, the object will be occasionally advertised with its name (and possibly sales price) whenever the vending machine decides to talk. If the object is password-hidden, the vending machine will only advertise it if people wearing head jumpsuits or sec/detective jumpsuits aren't in hearing distance. - And finally, select if you want to be notified of people ejecting/buying the objects via your pda. ---------- When a person investigates the vending machine part, they see a list of the objects in the machine set for sale, their prices, and an examine button that gives them the examine blurb. They'd also have a 'password' button that lets them enter secret codes. Otherwise, it'd work like a normal vending machine. Not sure what a proper emag/hack thing would be for it. ---- Also not sure what to do about assistants stealing the captain's pants and putting them for sale 1million credits. Possibly some sort of timed executive override that the heads can cause to eject the objects? Re: Automats - Midaychi - 07-20-2015 Also what might be needed: A way to handle multiple similar objects or stackables. Maybe clickdrag loading into the console when logged in sets up a batch vendomat setup that lets you set a price per object, so you could sell all 500 of your george melons for 100 credits each or sell your 'legitimately acquired from totally not over there' stack of 50 metal for 10 credits a sheet. Also a custom button on the vending part so you can buy custom amounts. Re: Automats - Spy_Guy - 07-20-2015 Cool! Re: Automats - Midaychi - 07-20-2015 Additional (terrible) ideas for further (mis)use: - Security vendomat, where you can set bail for inmates. People on the outside buying your freedom, maan. - Hop vendomat, where the hop can set up id templates and give prices for them. Hop would set a minimum access level for the template, set what access levels the template added/removed, and set a price. Hop could make the template alternatively give no change in access, but give the id a custom title instead. Possibly allow the hop to set a custom blurb that gets seen when you examine the template. How that'd work^ -- Assistant visits hop vendomat, Has access to basic job templates that the hop set up like 'janitor' or 'scientist' or 'potluck' or whatever, but also sees 'eva' which might require you have id access on your card for security first. Buying would require inserting their id and using their pin, and would apply/removed the access levels. - Robotics/medbay vendomat that dispenses tickets. How that'd work ^ -- Person logs in, types in what service they promise to provide and sets a price and vends. Some bloke comes to the vending part later, and buys "IOU butt removal for hat, 100 credits - Dave Sanders" , which gets printed out as a ticket. Now, if said person or anyone at all decides to honor said ticket, is beyond vendomat preview. Might need a paper shredder or something for redeeming tickets though, or a stamp, so you people don't try to use a ticket multiple times. Re: Automats - Midaychi - 07-20-2015 Further: Maybe cargo vendomat can handle crates? Click drag a closed crate to console to sell entire crate as a single pack. Examine shows the names of the objects inside. Otherwise works like selling anything else. Purchasing could cause the crate to appear in front of the vending section, possibly rolling out on a mini belt. Re: Automats - pizzatiger - 07-20-2015 i really love how your putting your heart into these ideas and they are all really good ideas too! |
