Blob needs some buffs - Berrik - 05-14-2015 -Artifact melee weapon or artifact gun = dead blob and there's nothing you can do no matter how much you reinforce yourself. This needs to change somehow. -Blobs can't smash vending machines, porta-flashes, or crates-- with the result that players use them to provide impenetrable barricades to the blob, and in the case of crates stand on them and attack the blob with virtual impunity. I've had a dude cryo grenade himself after I cornered him to prevent me from absorbing him, he just sat in the cube the rest of the round presumably alt-tabbed out. You're a blob newbie and put your nucleus somewhere in the general vicinity of a window? Enjoy being bursted down by the strelka! Didn't buy the right upgrades by the time you get found? Too bad, enjoy getting ruined super quickly with no way to get more except by luck. Re: Blob needs some buffs - Berrik - 05-14-2015 Alright, serious suggestion: the blob needs fire, poison, one attack upgrade, and the ability to devour items built right in at the start of the round. You shouldn't need to count on not being discovered for 30 minutes to achieve basic functionality needed to survive any encounter with remotely competent crew. A few minutes after you are discovered, there WILL be multiple people with flamethrowers, hellfoams, plasma tanks, and all that in your face and if you don't have all of these things you are dead. I've seen my fair share of blob victories, so I'm not exactly inclined to call them underpowered. If you're talking about the situation I'm thinking of, it was actually an artifact beaker filled with ~3000 units of sulfuric acid and radium. I did feel sort of bad after pouring the entire thing on your only nucleus. I'm pretty sure artifact melee weapons do jack shit to blobs. Re: Blob needs some buffs - 69andahalf - 05-14-2015 People need to learn how to play blob, it's like any other antag. It also depends on the player, if they have some knowledge or none at all. I've survived being discovered early, a plasma fire, flamers and chemical spray bottles in a single round. It just depends on how well you can manage your blob, and how you react to situations. Honestly artifact guns don't need a nerf as you shouldn't nerf something that doesn't appear on a regular basis and is entirely RNG based. The bug with the crate and vending machines does need to be fixed but I've never seen it used to actually kill a blob, as it can easily break though walls, and attack people who stand on the crates. Blob is still really new, and people need a few rounds to get used to it, and which upgrades they should focus on getting. Blob is pretty well balanced as is, it's not luck based, and the players just need to get better at blobbing. This topic just seems to be I died and stuff needs to be nerfed. However, ocean of tears set aside, you are right about crates, ice cubes, artifacts, strelkas, et al. True, but many people skip over or straight up just not notice the tutorial which gives you some experience and goes through most if not all of the abilities. (I've only used the tutorial before nuclei were added.) Also, add in a tutorial for wraiths. It's like the blob in how it's so different from normal gameplay that it's like re-learning the basic mechanics in a way. Ideally, the tutorial should award an achievement that can be claimed for instant XP the next time you're a blob so that you don't have to do it repeatedly. |
