Nerf blob rates, remove blob buttons, no fun allowed - Ali0en - 02-26-2015

Every round, there's at least one blob. Lest it be at the 20 minute mark, during nuke ops, the 4 minute mark, ling rounds, or what have you.

Every

round

I am fine with blob, but this is excessive. It ruins every round and turns the game into CALL THE SHUTTLE simulator. It's happening too much. Same with badmins pressing the spawn blob button. Please just lower the blob rates and make the spawn blob admin button kick themselves instead. It's not fun anymore.

I get the idea you got killed by a blob that an admin spawned?

No, I'm just tired of blobs every round. Read the post.

I'll agree, as soon as I actually get a damn chance to actually be a blob sometime >:I

I don't play as much as I used to these days due to an egregious amount of other shit to do, but I can agree that pretty much every round I play in has a blob somewhere in it at some point. Really, we seem to be on a big blob kick in general.

current blob rate chance: 5% [1/20 rounds]

plus the chance for a random event blob and then the ever popular admin spawned blob.

as much as blob mode is fun I think random event blobs shouldnt be a thing with how strong blobs are now. they pretty much require concentrated crew effort to beat and having them later in a round when alot of people are dead or at the same time as other antagonists is a bit much.

The prevalence of blobs is slowly becoming more normal. As with most things it had a rush of interest and testing at the beginning and will soon be just another - though in my opinion very cool - antagonist.

This, pretty much. I think the main reason why we're on a blob rush is because the admins usually test things like this by throwing them into a round and seeing what happens, and blobs are a comparatively new antagonist type that therefore requires more testing. And like I said, I don't play much these days, so I don't really have statistics here.

Here's a suggestion: Maybe implement a hard cap of one blob at maximum per round? I don't know how frequently the crew ends up having to deal with multiple blobs in a given round, but it doesn't sound very fun.

Re: Nerf blob rates, remove blob buttons, no fun allowed - BaneOfGiygas - 02-27-2015

I probably should clarify: By "hard cap" I mean general spawning rules. Admin-spawning would take precedence. It just seems rather over the top to have a player-spawned blob and then have the crew deal with a random-event blob in the same round, possibly while the first blob is still alive and kicking and other antagonists are running around.

I really like the random blobs - they often come later in the round when the antags have wreaked their havoc and most of the robust types are too busy dealing with that to dogpile on the blob.

Marquesas Wrote:TRIVIA INCOMING
Did you know that wraiths have a much higher chance of appearing at round start?
6.4% that a wraith appears.
1.8% that a blob appears, excluding the blob random event.
Marquesas Wrote:Shit, I retract that statement, I did a bad *0.1, blob rates are around 10%. I'll see to it that it's reduced, and that wraith is slightly increased.
From the thread on increasing wraith rates.

I was testing blob a lot lately and would make myself one at roughly the same time every day for a while there.

Sorry about that I guess.

Re: Nerf blob rates, remove blob buttons, no fun allowed - atomic1fire - 03-01-2015

I don't really have an issue with the admins testing blob, but if you're gonna test a thing that impacts other people, announcing it probably wouldn't be a terrible idea. At the very least it wouldn't be immediately taken as bad luck or admin abuse.

Blob is a pretty hard game mode but it's really fun to watch people throw bombs or use flamethrowers in the battle to kill a thing consuming the station.

Re: Nerf blob rates, remove blob buttons, no fun allowed - Zafhset - 03-01-2015

I don't personally mind blobs appearing more often for the time being (round antag, event, admin spawned, etc). There's a huge deficit of people who can play a blob effectively enough to challenge the crew, and this would help bring people up to speed somewhat through trial and error.
