Currently it seems like a tossup whether they do their job or just sit there for 5 minutes.

Floorbots do the same thing, they either sit there on a space tile after fixing one or actually repair the floor. I have seen many a floorbot stuck in space.

What I would really like is for the AI to have some kind of control over bots like that. Like, they could command them to move to places they are needed blob overmind style and then they would do the work.
Maybe when robotics gets expanded the Robotocist can do something like that to.
