I picked up a used grody gizmo and it simply gave me a '*click* *click*' when I try to fire it.

Make that 'tried to fire it'
I was a medical doctor with 100% health, nothing else seemed off that round. I think the previous owner may have been gibbed or had it removed somehow.

I was the one who brought it to the station for some lucky assistant to find, I can confirm no one else used it previously.

Did you try sticking your artifact gun in a charger?

Some artifacts need to be charged, for example by feeding them or putting them in a recharger.

The grody gizmo is the meat station end reward, not an artifact.
