New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - Sam Guivene - 11-24-2014 Botany doesn't get updated very often, and we've got a lot of plants that could do with a few variants, I'm going to bring up a few of my own ideas and offer others to input their own ideas here also. Many plants, such as potato, peanuts, catnip, grass, and pumpkins could use new stuff to them. I have a few suggestions to this end, I will put a suggestion template that should work below. Name: (your mutant plant name) Original Plant: (The original plant, as labelled in the Description: How to mutate: (Usually random mutation/mutagenic plant forumula, but as some of you may know, other things exist. Effects: (what makes your plant different than another plant) Chemical content: (If its an added chem make sure to list it) Sprite: (For those who are less lazy unlike me) Name: Tomacco Original Plant: Tomato Description: A cross between tomato and tobacco, approved by Big Tobacco. How to mutate: Infuse tomato seeds with nicotine. Effects: Potentially addictive (nicotine) Chemical content:50u nicotine Sprite: Looks almost identical to regular tomato harvest, the plant itself should appear darker green than usual. Note: Will create addictive honey and cause all sorts of issues Name: Sweet Potato Original Plant: Potato Description: A potato, that is sweet. How to mutate: Mutagenic plant formula/RNGeesus Effects: Tastes sweet Chemical content: 10u sugar Sprite: Darker brown potatoes on plant, potatoes are orange instead of normal white. Name: Coy/Coybeans Original Plant: Soy/Soybean Description:Theres something fishy about this... How to mutate: Mutagenic Plant formula/RNGeesus Effects: Harvesting this plant gives a random variety of fish instead of the usual soybean harvest. Chemical content:N/A Sprite: Fish grow instead of the beans in later stages, maybe some scales on the plant or something? Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - pizzatiger - 11-24-2014 Here are my ideas viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2429 I am too lazy to transfer them to that format Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - DyssalC - 11-24-2014 Name: Jellybeans Original Plant: Soybeans Description: When harvested yields Every Flavor Beans. How to mutate: Mutagenic plant formula or infuse soybean seeds with mugwort. Effects: It gives you jelly beans! Chemical content: Random chem with sugar, just like the ones the wizards get. Sprite: Recoloring the pods and vines to be purple and red and yellow and the sort would do the trick. Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - Sam Guivene - 11-26-2014 Name: Poison Potato Original Plant: Potato Description: This potato looks strange. How to mutate:RNGeesus/Unstable mutagen Effects: Makes potatos that are now toxic to people, like there native ancestors Chemical content: cyanide Sprite: slightly more sinister than a regular potato plant, potatos are slightly greener. Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - VictorMAngoStein - 11-26-2014 Name: Square Watermelon Original Plant: Watermelon Description: This is a square watermelon. What the hell? How to mutate:RNGeesus/Unstable mutagen Effects: Looks weird and takes up less space in your produce satchel. Square watermelon slices can be used as sandwich bread. Chemical content: the usual...unless you an think of something funny ("you feel...pixellated?") Sprite: what does it sound like? Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - atomic1fire - 11-27-2014 Name: Jumping Beans Original Plant: Soy beans Description: These beans appear to be jumping. How to mutate:RNG/Unstable mutagen Effects: The sprite is animated to bounce/shake in place, if left alone long enough a moth pops out Chemical content: 1 larvae Sprite: A regular soybean that's bouncing up and down. Imagine one of these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOwTlODiH2w But more interesting to look at because they're jumping and they're in space and gravity isn't a thing. Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - Natsumehack - 11-27-2014 atomic1fire Wrote:Name: Jumping Beans Sure but if you eat it, you have a moth come out of you like if you ate a bee egg. Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - Sam Guivene - 12-03-2014 Name: Castor Beans Original Plant: Soy Beans Descriptioneath on a stalk. How to mutate: Unstable mutagen and luck Effects: Eating these will kill you horrifically. Chemical content: 20u ricin. Sprite: Darker and looks mildly intimidating. Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - Sam Guivene - 12-07-2014 going to bump this idea as it would really be quite nice. Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - Sam Guivene - 12-31-2014 Adding an additional Idea I thought of in conjunction with another unrelated suggestion by someone else. Name: Grapefruit Original Plant: Grape Description: Neither a grape, nor very fruity. How to mutate: Unstable mutagen. Effects: Lowers depletion rate of chemicals in your system. (Grapefruit does this to you IRL also) Chemical content: 10u Furanocoumarin (a chemical actually found in grapefruit) Sprite: Like a regular grape plant with grapefruits on it instead of grapes. Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - Sam Guivene - 01-01-2015 Sam Guivene Wrote:Adding an additional Idea I thought of in conjunction with another unrelated suggestion by someone else. An awesome 3rd party on reddit did a grapefruit sprite Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - Captain_Bravo - 01-03-2015 I really like the jellybeans idea, but that seems way too powerful to be a normal mutation. What if it's unlocked kind of like omega weed? Something else botanists can aim for, and spend half a round creating? Speaking of which, how difficult would it be to enhance the system currently used for plants? I'm wondering if it might be possible to create mutations that require splicing genes from particular plants. So, like, for Tomacco you'd have to find a way to splice tobacco genes into tomatos. Not only would this open the way for more involved mutations than "Infuse with Saltpeter, plant, harvest, repeat", but it would also give Botany more depth in terms of skills. Knowing how to splice across six different species to get Carrot genes into grass would require more skill and knowledge than any current botany shenanigans. That's just a spitball idea, though. As for new mutations, I want to see a lasher plant that you can harvest weapons from. Something like: Name: Smooth Lasher Original Plant: Lasher Vine Description: This Lasher vine is missing almost all of it's thorns. The smooth bark offers a good grip. How to mutate: decrease potency to -50 Effects: allows you to harvest the plant for Spiked Sticks. These act like light tubes, in that whenever you hit someone with one they shatter, so they can only be used once. Deal 20 brute damage, and have a high chance to cause bleeding. Sprite: The plant would look like a lasher, except thornless, and brown. The sticks would look just like a stick. Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - APARTHEID - 01-03-2015 Name: Everlasting Cobstopper Original Plant: Corn Description: Woah! How many kernels are on this thing? It's like the monster with a hundred eyes, if the ears were kernels of corn. How to mutate: Increase potency. Effects: Upon heating, releases its payload of thousands of thousands of popped popcorn kernels, effectively serving as a weaker metal foam grenade that can't patch floors. Great for cluttering up areas and making quick escapes! Sprite: A glittering cob of corn. Nothing too fancy. Re: New Plant Mutation Suggestions/Ideas - APARTHEID - 01-03-2015 I SHOULD mention that increasing the potency of said corn increases the yield (popcorn foam).
