The poor chef is generally overlooked as a job while botany is weed simulator 2014 and QM ignores his pitiful wails, perhaps he could start with some middle-grade produce?

Ya, chef has to rely too much on other people in order to do his job.

Run out of flour? Gotta get a dry goods crate.
Need tomatoes? Gotta ask botany for some.

Would be nice if the chef had some more independence.

The main reason why I've never gotten into being a Chef is because of how dependent you tend to be on Botany and QM, who are probably up to their necks in weed and novelty clothing, respectively, in any given round. Having the Chef start with so many things except for the one group of stuff he needs from other departments is silly, and if no one's going to bother with botany, you've basically been deprived half of your cookbook. That's not fun.
