When you get gibbed, if you are wearing VR goggles, you get sent to some sort of pocket dimesion and left to float for infinity, I tried to become a borg eating a roburger, and went into VR to pass the time but I got stuck and I couldn't even suicide.

Apparently you just pop up on the derelict field or mining, you can't get hurt at all and your stuck drifting.

sounds like it's sending you to coordinates 0, 0, 0. did you have a HUD as if you were still living?
