Donald Pepper-Mint Snatch HOS Application Numero Dos - DonDon - 01-28-2026

Goon servers you play: 3 & 4

Reason for application: Security has been my favorite position to play on Goon. The sense of camaraderie and teamwork that you get within this department far outshines other departments. In fact, security as a department cannot function effectively without great communication and planning as a team. This is something many other departments simply do not require, and I believe why I’ve been drawn to security so much. I love being part of a team and working with my peers to achieve a difficult goal as well as being part of a community (or department) whose sole purpose is to help those around them, which I believe is security’s driving force. To protect and serve at risk of sounding corny. I’ve been a part of the team for quite some time and I am ready to see if I have what it takes to lead the team.

Security experience (300 word minimum): I have a little over 500 rounds total between classic and roleplay and I would wager between half and three quarters of those rounds were played as security. I first gave security a try about three or so years ago and was surprised at just how much I loved it. Now it’s probably my most consistent pick besides Engineer. As far as experience goes, I’ve had a good bit. I’ve been involved in some awesome exchanges with great roleplaying antagonists and I’ve had my interactions with others that don’t quite understand their role as an antag or get caught early, but I always try to perhaps nudge them in the right direction if I can without metagaming.

I’ve done a fair share of training assistants as well. From the fundamentals of SecMate to intricate detainment techniques and the importance of communication. I like to think that the security department is only as good as their assistants are, because if the time comes (and it most likely will) they could very well be what stands between the station and the opposing force. I also try to teach them leniency. It’s fairly common for sec assistants to come in believing we are the long arm of the law and that the station is in need of cracking down on. While this is the case in rare exigent circumstances, I’d say that a solid 85% of the time it isn’t. So I like to teach them that other members of the station aren’t citizens, but crew mates and co-workers. Not everyone breaking some laws is a bad guy, but sometimes they’ve just made a mistake or don’t know what they’ve done is wrong, and it’s on us to correct them with a gentle hand.

I’ve been a part of many peaceful resolutions as well. These are pretty feel-good moments that sometimes even feel better than effectively robusting a dangerous hostile lifeform. There’s the typical bar brawl which usually is resolved in just separating the combatants, but sometimes you get inter-departmental feuds that you must solve which can be volatile if left unattended. Science is the perfect example. There’s been many times in which scientists have gotten into fights over who gets to use tox labs or who gets to keep a cool artifact and if left to their own devices they can be a recipe for assured disaster. I try to keep cool and level-headed in these times and bring both parties to a resolution that best benefits them both. People often times don’t realize the bonus of a compromise and that’s why security is a good fit for being a third party to these feuds, because we have nothing to gain from either side besides peace and can help negotiate between the two.

Answer two or more of the following:
  • What advice would you give to other sec players?
Communication, communication, communication. It is sometimes hard admittedly to pay attention to the radio on the right side of your screen when you’re giving chase, maybe writing a ticket or even shootin the breeze with your compadres back in main. It is imperative, however, that you check your radio chatter as often as possible because someone’s panic button may be on cooldown, or they lost it, and they rely on you, their teammate as backup when things go south. This goes both ways as well, any time you develop something new in a case, report it to the radio A.S.A.P. Information is often the lifeblood of security players and one wrong or forgotten call can mean the death of the station. Keep that radio handy!
  • Describe any differences in your playstyle when part of a full security team and when being the only security officer:
When I am part of a full team I often try to either help new assistants or even offer to play dispatch at main. If neither is viable at the time I’ll typically just do patrols and keep my team updated on any current events that could potentially lead to security-related situations. When I’m the only officer on at the time is when things can get hectic as I’m sure anyone would know. My typical go to pick is always the basic taser belt with morphine and donuts as well as the disruptor power cell. This allows me to operate semi-independently if I have to in a combat situation as well as giving me the means to attempt a getaway even when gravely injured. I do my very best to stay away from maintenance when I am alone as well. If you get caught there and you’re the only officer on duty, chances are you’re a goner. I stick to patrolling the halls and anytime I get updates on any potential threats I make sure to update the rest of the crew the best I can to be on lookout and to report suspicious activity to me. When part of a full team, security can usually handle things themselves, but when you’re by yourself you must have good relations with the crew because they are your only allies when the heat is on. Of course I still work to the best of my ability to keep everyone free from harm where I can and contain the danger to just myself, but I like to know that if it must come to it, I can count on the rest of the station to have my back.

Answer one or more of the following fun questions (because it's important for the HoS to be fun):
  • What's a security gimmick that you've ran or wanted to run?
I’d like to do a little snack mixer type deal catered by the chef where all of the crew can come by and we can do a little Q&A between the security staff and the rest of the crew. I think it would do a lot of good in boosting the relationship between the crew and the security team if we could clear up things that some players who’ve never played security or don’t know the department well could ask things that have been bugging them and have it answered by experienced members and even some rookies on the force. I know years back when I had yet to play security I had no clue how they operated and under what principles they operated under, so a kind of social event where everyone can come together and share experiences and information would be pretty cool in my opinion.
