Redo Saxitoxin's behavior, keep tweaked current version as generic space pesticide - colossusqw - 11-08-2025

I haven't been super active coding wise, but this idea has been stuck to my head for a while. We renamed saxitoxin, but instead of choosing one of the non-war crime organophosphates, we kind of just gave it the name of a chemical that does not act like ingame saxitoxin at all, it still behaving like an organophosphate. It would be nice to make a slightly weaker version of current saxitoxin with a tweaked (non-secret) recipe and effects:

- Calling it something like Space Pesticide or Spacerone like some less than ideal thing donk company would cook up to sell to planetary bases
- Doubling the depletion rate and making it lose half yield when skin penning
- Making it kill small critters like roaches and scorpions on contact

- Changing current STX to be closer to what IRL algae neurotoxin is
- Less jittering, more progressive slowness effect and oxyloss into paralysis
- Making producing it requiring large amounts of water for a small-ish yield

TLDR; rename and nerf saxitoxin, then make a new version that has slightly more realistic effects and will be a pain in the ass for chemists to synthesize? That's all I can gather from this at least.

I didn't actually know saxitoxin was a real neurotoxin, I guess I'm dumb. But from the looks of it it's way less powerful than the saxitoxin ingame, it doesn't seem to penetrate skin and the closest comparison would be like tetrodotoxin unless the source on wikipedia I skimmed thru is lying. Just a generic neurotoxin that shuts your organs down and kills you.

I like how the current "saxitoxin" ingame works, what drive did the devs have to shift it over from being sarin, to an organically derived neurotoxin? Was it just too risky to have a dumbed-down representation of an incredibly lethal chemical that is a war crime in their game? If that's the case, then that's a shame, because really deadly poisons in video games are cool.

We should be aware of how its used ingame: debilitating poison grenades for nukies.

Due to that, i don't think we should nerf it. It should knock you down fast, be a skin pen poison and confirm the kill. I personally would appreciate a more sophisticated synthesis route, however.

The proposed changes sound like a new poison entirely so... why not nake a new chem with these instead of changing saxitoxin?

Oh, I dont mean to nerf the syndicate version, rather alter it to a saxitoxin with new behavior that works more like actual saxitoxin. Neurotoxic paralitic saxitoxin would be excellent for combat just like current organophosphate saxitoxin, fast acting and debilitating enough. I dont really want the syndicate to get the pesticide version.

So a new version, plus keeping the old?

Always up for new chemicals!

Would the interaction with Atropine stay the same, considering that it still would be an organophosphate, it would make sense right?
