Richard Harnley's 2nd HoS application - GamerCake - 09-20-2025 Usual character name: Richard Harnley BYOND username: GamerCake Discord username (if you are on our discord): GamerCake Recommended by (if applicable): While I can't remember an exact time I was "recommended" I was definitely encouraged and applauded for my RP by different people Goon servers you play: Sylvester 4 Reason for application: While my first application didn't go too well since not enough people knew me too well, I believe that has changed now. I always love being recognized by people I enjoy playing with frequently and have interactions with. Those kinds of interactions I am doing this for, having memorable moments with people that enjoy it. I also believe that Security most often than not, lacks a lot of coordination during the shift, I think I can definitely work on organizing and generally running Security a lot more smoothly and of course more fun for everybody involved. Security experience (300 word minimum): As of right now, I over 600 hours played, starting at around 2021, which was when I first started playing. An overwhelming majority of that being in the Security department. I've been in prolonged "dogfighting" pod fights, which are of course always my favorite due to the nature of being inside a clunky metal machine with guns attached to its sides, but also because Richard's backstory is having been in the NanoTrasen Navy. I do personally enjoy interrogating suspects, since you have a lot of RP opportunities available to you, be it classic "Good cop/Bad cop" or laying the evidence down and watching the suspect for clues whether they are telling the truth or not. Processing prisoners is something that I've become exceptionally fast at over time, decreasing the overall amount of time the person is held rather than in their cell with an active timer. Generally I play on lowpop more (also due to my timezone) since it gives me a lot more "time" to interact with people more and it's easier to get to know them better. What I do enjoy is doing both field and office work, writing reports and creating briefings and dossiers or being out on patrol and searching for suspects, I tend to know what is needed most at the time by my gut feeling. While I would describe myself as "more strict than the average Officer" I do frequently give shortened sentences or general punishment to complying to minor crimes. Something I also very much enjoy is training new Officers, so much so that I sometimes run at the chance of training the new guy, because if they have even just half as much fun playing Security as I have, it will have been worth it. I'd also describe Security as a "service job" from time to time, since your main goal is not just "shooting the bad guy" but helping your fellow crewmen in any way you can, Security is a job that many people go to when they have a problem, so you should be ready to assist them how you can. Overall, there's not many things I haven't done as an Officer, but there is certainly a ton more that I don't know, things I will be glad to learn along the way. Answer two or more of the following:
RE: Richard Harnley's 2nd HoS application - GamerCake - 10-06-2025 Quick update: Thought I'd mention that before starting to play SS13 actively, I played Space Station 14 for many years, as of right now I have over 4 thousand hours in that game alone. (Although I stopped playing quite some time ago) The reason why I think this is important is that (although different in some matters) I firmly understand what is expected of me as a round-leading role, and how it can affect other players. I also see this as relevant because I see a lot of HoS applicants with thousands of hours here alone, although I believe I have gathered enough time and experience to be suitable, some may think my time played may be too little. RE: Richard Harnley's 2nd HoS application - Slazenger - 10-13-2025 Have seen some great RP from Harnley and some solid Sec/investigative work, and have not had any notable unpleasant experiences. Seems to have good technical grasp of Sec/equipment, works to advance the shift in a suitable way, and is a competent communicator. My only reservation is that I haven't seen you take charge much within the Sec team when we've played together. Of course I've either been HoS/NTSC when on shift together, but my suggestion is to always speak with the HoS who is on and take a leading role in the team to both build your skill set and demonstrate your ability to help your fellow officers and show you have the mettle to handle the beret. Most HoSii will always be more than willing to play second fiddle and allow promising officers a chance in the limelight. I have been actively working on taking on a more "leading role" within the security department, organizing duties and regularly asking for status updates of everybody on the force. Yet I tend to lean back a bit more when there is an active HoS to not step on their toes or undermine their authority, but I suppose every HoS is different and some might not mind it! |
