Goonstation Summer 2025 Seasonal Contest - Studenterhue - 07-31-2025
Happy summer, everyone! (And happy winter, if you're in the Southern Hemisphere). To celebrate the summer season, we'll spriting postcards, the kinds spacers might buy and mail to their friends as mementos of summer trips and vacations. These can appear in Cargo's mail system, so maybe, when you open up your mail, you'll find something you made in this contest!
You can use the sprites below as templates. You do not have to follow them exactly. You can change the colors if you'd like and get rid of the white borders. You can also use different dimensions and make a postcard that's bigger/smaller than the templates. Just make sure you're no bigger than 32 pixels tall by 32 pixels wide (though, postcards are usually quite small, so you probably don't need to use up all that space.) It's up to you!

In addition, if you'd like, you can give your postcard a title or write a little description/caption for the image on the postcard, but you don't have to if you don't want to.
Submissions are open until August 21. That means you have three weeks to make your postcard sprite! After that, we'll have a week-long vote to decide which ones will get added to the game.
Entry Guidelines
- Submit your entries by replying to this thread. You can either embed the image in your post or add it as an attachment. (There are dedicated buttons for both when you Preview Post and access the full editor.) You do not need to make a pull request.
- These will be in-game sprites, so the image should be no bigger than 32 pixels tall by 32 pixels wide.
- Postcards are flat images, so unlike most sprites in Goonstation, they do not need to be in 3/4 perspective.
- PNG is preferred. You do not have to submit a .dmi file; I will handle the .dmi conversion, after the contest wraps up.
- Again, you do not have to follow the templates exactly. Feel free to change it up.
- You can make multiple entries, but only one may be entered as your official entry
- This should hopefully be obvious, but we don't want any images that are sexually charged or express bigotry, even if it's directed towards fictional beings.
"I don't know how to make sprites!"
Never made sprites before? Don't worry. Plenty of people on the official Discord are willing to show you the ropes. Just check out the #imspriter channel on our official Discord. You'll need the Player role to access it; be sure to look in the #rules channel for instructions for obtaining it. Our official spriting guide, the Goonstation Spriting Guidelines, also offers advice on things like what software you could use and how to pick good color palettes.
Prizes
After the vote ends, the five postcards with most votes will receive the following prizes:
- Their postcard will be added to the mail loot table for all jobs. That is, when you open a piece of mail from the Mail Courier, you may find a postcard from this contest, whether you're a Geneticist, an Engineer, a Botanist, etc.
- A free sticker from Gannets. His bigcartel storefront shows all the possible stickers you may soon find waiting in your (real-life) mailbox. Please be aware that the mentor mice, nuke op patch, and NT patch designs are running low, so you might want to prepare some secondary choices in case these three run out.
- A Too Cool medal that lets you use
in-game (via medal rewards, which actually pulls up a picture of it in-game above you, not in the chat) and in OOC chat.
All entrants, winner and non-winner alike, will get a Fun Times medal, which allows you to become a living participation ribbon as a ghost. This time around, you'll get Fun Times after you submit your entry (presuming you have a valid entry), rather at the end of the contest. I can't promise it'll be granted immediately after you post it, but I'll try to make sure everyone gets it within a reasonable time frame.

My entry to the contest as best as I can in the limiting tools of MSPaint. I figure if the syndicate can send christmas cards, why not have an equally rare chance for a Syndicate Postcard. Surely nothing more fun than showing they can even get in the NT Mail system no?
