Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - WyrdDoe - 07-13-2025 I'm a pretty girly girl, I don't like spawning with a beard as a wizard and always ask someone to help me get rid of it. I've observed a lot of other wizards also ditch the beard at round start, and not for a stealth play or anything, just for personal preference. I do anticipate some level of pushback since it's a well established meme, but here we go. How about a magic mirror on the wizard shuttle that opens up the character customization menu? The ability to polymorph appearance is a pretty common magic in fantasy, I think it'd fit the tone of the wizard fed pretty well and would also cut out the tedious chore of going to the barber and conscripting a staffie who won't be a dick about helping you. I'd also very much like to have some wizard fits more in the vein of magical girl, I know the heart of this community, I see you. A lot of you would kill for that. Finally, uh... at the risk of packing too many different things to respond to here, as I discussed in my thread about the barbarang, force-balding is wack, I think the cutting off the beard thing sucks in spirit. No hard feelings if you think it's funny, just uhhh. Yeah. RE: Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - Johnny Faith - 07-13-2025 I'd be fine with a witch customization option, but I think beard removal should absolutely stick around. Maybe to stop a witch you have to cut off some stereotypical witch thing, like an herb belt. Wizards are extremely powerful and cutting off their beard is basically the only way to get them to stop for a few minutes without jumping to just killing them. RE: Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - ZeWaka - 07-13-2025 Wizards need beards to cast spells RE: Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - RSOD - 07-13-2025 (07-13-2025, 09:14 AM)ZeWaka Wrote: Wizards need beards to cast spells well yeah but in a world of such whimsy and joy, would there not be the option of Magic Moustaches™? RE: Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - Vulwin_Gilran - 07-14-2025 no, Wizards who get their beards shaved off cant do spells for two whole minutes. If that ISNT working, thats a bug. Wizards needing beards to do magic IS a feature. RE: Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - WyrdDoe - 07-14-2025 That's a separate feature to having it done barbershop style, I'm fairly sure. Shaving the beard isn't mechanically the same as having your hair cut properly, I think it's a unique interaction? Whatever the case, I am humbly suggesting and requesting a move away from this implementation of this specific joke. Getting bogged down in the minute specifics of exactly how it works isn't something I'm super interested in for the scope of this thread. RE: Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - Danger Noodle - 07-14-2025 No, it is actually. The beard simply isn't even a balance factor, mutantraces don't spawn with it and it doesn't do that much. If you're caught to that level you're already dead or as good as dead. Forcing cosmetics like that isn't great and god does it make not getting misgendered a fucking pain, saying what pronouns you actually use starts to feel a bit hopeless after the 10th time. RE: Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - Gomp - 07-14-2025 Balance discussions about this are rather silly in my opinion. Now if wizard was a regular antag on RP I would be worried that people just use the customization features to make their own characters and all the issues that come with player characters being antags (I do really wish people weren't so attached to the characters they play in a game where you can blow up from farting at any time). I think making it optional is reasonable since it does encourage misgendering people, at the very least playing as a witch should be possible somehow. RE: Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - Drunkangel - 07-14-2025 I'm saying this as somebody who personally loves stupid things that mess with appearance like barberang. Which I only mention because this does feel, to me, like a completely different ballpark. I don't think it's a bad idea to let wizards have more customization options that don't include a beard. I feel like the workarounds like mutantraces and getting it trimmed without it coming up as a problem shows that actually it doesn't really need to be a thing, I've in truth, never shaved a wizard or ordered one shaved as HOS. Just because if it gets to the point I'm just gonna kill them. You can also remove the hat to stop spell casting if I recall. I think this is a really easy accommodation for style and aesthetic that doesn't really change gameplay much at all. I think getting the option to play a more witchy or feminine aesthetic without the giant beard is perfectly fine and I agree that the joke of a wizard needing a beard to cast spells isn't as fun to me as more RP/aesthetic options. RE: Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - JORJ949 - 07-14-2025 You can remove the wizard robes to prevent most spellcasting, the hat has no effect but it should be relatively simple and reasonable to move it from beard to hat. RE: Customization mirror on the wizard shuttle, wizard glam in general - Solenoid - 07-14-2025 Why not just have the wizard hat have an in-hand toggle like the clown mask where you either have a beard or not? Could be a good option if you like the beard, or if you don't want the beard you don't gotta deal with it. Plus, the idea of wizards wearing the equivalent of a shitty mall santa costume for their power is kinda funny. I think the whole removing a beard to stop spellcasting for a little mechanic is sorta unused anyways, and if it's getting to the point where the wizard is causing that much trouble, most sec teams will just kill the wizard or take off their robes so they can't keep messing with the crew. I don't think that removing beards from wizards will significantly impact gameplay, since I didn't even know that shaving their beards would stop their spellcasting until I saw this thread. I don't personally feel like we need new outfits or anything for wizards, but that's just down to personal taste, I guess. I like female wizards wearing the same stuff as male wizards in my fantasy media, since I personally think of witches and wizards as different magic-users, but that's also kind of out of scope/off-topic. Ultimately, I don't feel too strongly one way or the other, but I wouldn't mind the whole beard thing being optional since it's not like it's used regularly on RP anyways ![]() |
