Cameras shouldn't be able to see directly under themselves - Gomp - 04-21-2025

It's a common stealth trope and I think it would make hiding from the AI just a little bit more interesting.

lol do it

i think this idea is pretty neat!! would require some pretty thorough camera-awareness to actually make any use of but that's cool in of itself

I agree, but I think the AI should have some way of checking, like having the camera point directly down, losing it's wider vision in the process

In general, I think it would be neat if the AI could take direct control of cameras at time and manually aim them. Something that makes it really obvious it's happening as a way to also tip off a player that the AI is paying attention to them.

I think there's a few spots on certain maps where you can open a door to get a glimpse of a room you normally can't see as an AI, and I like the idea of stuff like that

I pretend to do this anyway. Because it's extremely funny. So by default I suppose I agree.

EDIT Yes I will attempt to append my ever-present desire that you can show paintings/photos to the AI camera so as to occasionally allow someone to "trick" the AI into seeing an empty hallway gimmick.

having the animation of the camera tied to what it can see would be interesting, have them see a cone but let the AI manually override where it is facing

You know, this does coincide with another topic of discussion here that also tends to come up from time to time: Whether it would be good to show if the AI is paying attention in the room.

Having the cameras track the eye position in a room seems like a very, subtle but apparent heads up that feels like a reasonable balance to me. A nice narrative "oh no" moment too. Might also encourage AI to not sit tracking one suspect until they eventually do a bad.

If we're talking about AI interactions with cameras I'd like to bring up my ancient idea that the AI should be able to read lips, like HAL could.

This seems easy enough to do. If camera's are close enough in proximity to the Eye Ghost Sprite, they just always turn to face it. Maybe then the AI has the ability to stop that from happening, but it limits how far they can see from the center of their vision.

The AI going stealth mode is also what let's you go stealth mode
