"Was it something I said?" A trait discussion - Nerkson - 01-23-2025

Goonstation 3/4 Observations

I've been keeping notes on this trait since it was added... a few months ago? It's been a source of funny moments for sure, but I would say more often than not it is a source of great frustration as I either have to keep all security bots offline the entire shift or endure constant pings of someone being arrested, or brig and detain people who decide to kill the security bots because they chose a trait.

I've never seen anyone with this trait roleplay that they ticked off the bots or perhaps earned their ire somehow. The vibe I get with this trait is that people are annoyed they have to deal with the bots part of the trait they willingly took. I would not call it self-antagging but I swear it feels close to it.

My opinion is that we should change the trait to just be a few taser smacks from securitrons and possibly just insults from guard buddies. Enough to still be very inconvenient but not enough that I have to just admit securitrons won't help today.

I've noticed this as well. Its also lead to alot of just destroying securitrons

Yea having made the trait I agree somewhat; some alternatives for secbots would be for them to 1): Have a lower threshold for contraband detection (ie: They arrest you for having 1-3 contraband instead of 4+ or whatever it is right now, though I forget exactly how this system works) or 2): Behave as normal but do the "stun this guy 8 times" routine if the person they arrest happens to have the trait. This was meant to function like a version of jailbird that sec doesn't just instantly remove but I think in practice it's not amazing.

The guardbuddies are much more subtle so I think this is less of an issue with them (they only stun you when they *would've* gone to hug you)

yeah, i think a much less lenient contraband detection and the several hits on arrest would work great for secbots, and to me they feel like the only issue, as medibots' comments and guardbuddies ""hug"" seem fine to me when i ran the trait

Maybe if it just stuns them without arresting and screaming all those profanities it rarely does.

Beeps already batons you a bunch after you get arrested, this adds requirement of low contraband for the arrest.

Agree with most of this though I was think it was worth a go.

One simple option I feel conveys the contempt securitrons share with their robotic bretheren for the spaceman in question is to have them simply "barge" them in passing, causing a trip/fall. The equivalent of being caught on the shoulder while walking a narrow corridor. Relatively harmless, isn't justifying people busting up a securitron, and conveys succinctly that somehow, this person is persona non grata amongst the full-silicon community.

id es just tie the jones-style trip mechanic to them. It'll also very occasionally cause funny accidents.

I think reporting / cuffing someone with the trait is a bit much and makes a lot of noise for security that is unwarranted. The contraband fix is likely a good compromise.

imo the trait is fine as it is. It's funny. If somebody is going to complain about being targeted by beeps after they took the trait that makes them targeted by beeps, that's on them. Same deal with the jailbird trait, it's a voluntary thing that only affects you if you choose it.

it is pretty annoying to see people actively pick the trait then go out of their way to kill every securitron
