Reason for application: The biggest reason is quite simply, I enjoy playing Head of Security. I have the good fortune to be a mentor which means I can try the role on Friday's, I've given it a good few solid goes and I can't say I've had a round as Head of Security that I haven't enjoyed, it's a lot to manage and somewhat stressful but I feel like it's within reason and simply a lot of fun, I enjoy taking care of my security officers, trying to dole out good tension and rivalry to the antagonists. And do my best to give good RP from a position with a lot of unique chances for RP. I've wanted to be a head of security for a solid few months but for many personal reasons it's been difficult to work up the courage to apply, for both fear of denial and fear that I'm not ready. In the past months things have been so much more stable and better for me that I don't actually mind if I get denied anymore. I'd just enjoy the feedback and try again in the future.
Security experience (300 word minimum): I've been playing space station 13 for over 4 years. Checking my medals I got fish on July 31st 2020. It took me a while to get around to playing security because I was scared of conflict. It wasn't for me at the time but I've dipped in and out of the game a few times over the years, and now I'm personally enjoying it a lot. I'm hampered a little bit in trying the different guns as my go-to character Lilac Knight (Formerly known as Lilac Collar) has a single arm. But I've played a lot with the default taser and when I play Lethix I always go for the only baton build. I love the launcher as silly as it is. (And always give them flashbang grenades partly so I can set them off in melee range of antags. It's shockingly effective sometimes.
It's taken me a while to get confident in giving out punishments, but I feel like I am reasonable and confident in doing so now. And I feel like I can competently direct a team, like I mentioned before I have been able to try out HOS by playing as one on Fridays but I honestly think the delegation part comes naturally and makes the job easier for me then playing as a normal officer. Even if I am always prepared to do the job alone when I do select to play one. As far as being skilled at the game goes I would consider myself well versed in it enough to understand what's going on the majority of the times. I've been able to keep up and win fights against dangerously armed opponents like antags with shotguns. And I would consider myself very reserved in how I fight, keeping my weapons away until I can pull them out then hit, or waiting until the opponent is in a tighter spot before I shoot.
I've been trying to play HoS on Fridays when I can recently for the entire reason of I actually really enjoy it, it's a lot of fun to be in the game in a fashion that's security but more command focused. It's the same way that sec assistant is a different kind of fun to security officer sometimes. I've gone though some pretty chaotic rounds as HoS and I feel like I've kept up reasonably well, and I've even had other people give me a hearty "You did good" so perhaps maybe just maybe, I'm not entirely imagining it.

- What advice would you give to other sec players? Remember to work with the people around you. If you have other team-mates in sec? That's amazing, work with them as much as you can. If you don't then you're still not alone, and people will probably be willing to help you out when the situation calls for it. Even if it's just doctors healing you or a engineer fixing a door. You're not alone.
- What was one of your favorite security moments? (Either playing as a sec officer or interacting with one)
It was a admeme round back in I think 2020 or 2021. I was a medical doctor as Lethix Lazlux and I met up with Fleur (played by Jan). I don't remember the specifics but things started to go wrong, people took sides, even as every member of command staff was trying to sell the station to the syndicate Fleur just wouldn't let that happen and fought back, I distinctly remember her running into a situation. Only to see somebody with a rocket launcher shoot her basically point blank. It destroyed her ears and her arm. I spent a lot of that round dragging people out of fights and dragging Fleur specifically out to keep her alive. Healing people as I went. But I kept a robot arm and occuline on me for about 30 minutes after she vanished as Fleur is one to do, only to run into her again after somehow getting myself pinned to the bridge between the ship and mining (it was on manta). She (or maybe somebody else) rescued me. And I healed her ear and replaced her arm. Then we made our way to the space diner and just sat, in shock of what happened, and grateful that we were both alive. We had a long moment to talk about the sheer chaos of the round and enjoy the aftershock and RP two people that fought as hard as they could, and lost. Defeated and sad. We drunk until the round ended.
- What game improvements or changes do you think would benefit security players?
Non-baton options. For example "Baton-toe'd boots" which after you knock somebody down, if you walk over them to kick them they get stunned with a baton effect. Meaning you could more quickly switch from a taser, to stunning them, to cuffing at the expense of not being able to directly melee people down. Or Brasston Knuckles. A melee weapon which gives a slight stun effect (not a full baton stun) but has ether a double hit move like knives or a special move to charge a few tiles then swing. Possibly allows grabbing while holding it to help feel more like a "unarmed weapon". Another one might be a baton spear, something you have to take out of your pocket. Then it extends into a two handed grip, it would act like a normal baton however possibly have some disarm resistance and a special move like a sweep or jab (at the cost of having to take two hands so no barrier). These are probably less outright powerful then a baton, then probably more funny.
As far as more serious suggestions go, I'm no game developer and understand that, but I think the biggest hurdle I see a lot of security officers run into and a source of confusion is brig timers. I think the fact you can set pretty much any time you want is very confusing. Yes it's nice to be able to knock off 20 seconds from a sentence, but it might be a little too intimidating when you're first locking somebody up and have no idea where to go from. Different people have different ideas of what to do in that situation. But I think it might be a little more simple if instead of a dial with a lot of options, it was a few buttons. 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 4 minutes. With increasingly scary looking timers. Perhaps even locking the long sentences behind the bigger jail cell with Stirstir in it so prisoners can properly enjoy the silly toys in there. This might remove some frustration from arrested people too as they feel like the security officers have a little bit less control over their sentence. Also possibly add a computer to one of the glass windows in the big prison designed for long timers where the prisoner can play pong against willing security members. That would be a funny little toy.
- Describe any differences in your playstyle when part of a full security team and when being the only security officer.
Even having one other officer changes the situation a lot. Even just having a captain or AI to talk to over security radio does, it means communication is key. It becomes the vital blood of which both good RP for you and the antagonists flows AND helps mechanically as a fun bonus. The biggest source of frustration is people simply not knowing what's going on, is this person that got arrested a multi-murderer or a single time thief? If I scream about a vampire trying to eat me it's extra important I tell the team if I caught said vampire and when I'm heading back to the station.
And when alone it's much different, but "alone" is a perspective, I'm the only officer but that makes it even more important to know how everybody is doing, in rounds with a population low enough for a single security officer I try to get a print off of the crew manifest and take a walk around, see what people are up too. I don't hunt them down if they're not in their department but I give them a friendly "Hi, how are you? Any worries? See you around". Half so I can see what people are up too and half because if I AM the only security member on the station I'm going to be running into a antagonist sooner or later (if it's extended) and it's a slightly nicer time when they've had a nice conversation with me where they can foreshadow their plans or feel like a sneaky mastermind before blowing up my department.

- What's a security gimmick that you've ran or wanted to run?
Very recently a player came up to me and talked about how they had been given the tranq rifle by the medical director, and asked for a contraband sticker. My gut instinct was surprise, but then I realized I could make this into a situation. I took them down to near the security department and told them they had 5 seconds to enter the room, spot the monkey in there, and fire. We blew a whistle and the player made the shot so I gave them a firearms permit. On a slower round a fuller situation like this could be fun, making a crash course in fire arms safety, a full obstacle course for it. People need to prove themselves capable of good aim and judgement before they're given a license but they can earn it. Then maybe contacting cargo and letting them sell guns at very high rates to make sure the entire station wasn't instantly littered with guns and giving a profit margin to the whole scheme.
I also had a idea on a bus today for trying to get the entire security department painted gold, having gold uniforms and declaring ourselves royal guards or something of the like. The job would remain exactly the same but with a air of pretension around it. It would be fun! I think anyway

A definite yes from me. I've had the privilege of catching Lilac on a few of its HoS rounds as NTSC, and I was very impressed. Lilac knows how to handle pressure well and is able to play security competently (with one arm as well, wow!).
It's also an extremely nice person to be around who often helps newer security players get on their feet and start enjoying the role. I don't hold any reservations or have any bad experiences that I can recall, only great examples of someone with a good mindset playing the role well.
A big +1 from me.

you're an excellent hos (and within that role, an excellent sec mentor) every time you play on fridays, and have been an excellent secoff for as long as i can remember; i think your powers for good guidance and mentorship only multiply if you're on the WL. i'm up for lilac knight as hos all day, any day.
also my wisdom to you: you wont experience anything you haven't already as hos on fridays (and maybe fridays really are the toughest since #weekendvibes). drop the fear, you already work with the gear, this is just giving you more chances to do that throughout the week and you've been around the block through a few tides now that i don't think anything at all will come out of left field for you in a way where you wouldnt be able to handle it appropriately

I can definitely vouch for this one. Lilac Knight has always been a pleasure to run into during my shifts, being polite and upbeat even at the worst of times. That, and it could kick my ass even while missing an arm, which I've gotta respect. I've even had the pleasure of having it proven to me by being on the other side while Lilac was the Head of Security. If you don't wanna bother with it all: it's a damn fine HoS and I love losing to it.
I go by Operative Hyena when I'm an antagonist, and my go-to is always "make a lot of noise, do a lot of damage, and go down biting and laughing in a very literal sense". Hyena is KNOWN for that kind of thing, and I fully expect Security teams to immediately come down onto me and accept that I might just lose pretty badly in that case.
Well, I got mindhacked and told to cause some chaos and sure enough, I messed up my initial move and wound up facing Lilac directly. Instead of killing me though, Lilac stunned me, cuffed me, and brought me to interrogation. Legitimately tried to give me a chance to talk and get leniency. I asked about plants and assaulted a couple officers a few times instead, but I STILL wasn't killed. I was given a mask, a suit, and promptly thrown out the airlock and told never to come back. When I did, I came back with a vengeance and got brought NEARLY to death, but Lilac had the wherewithal to check for a mindhack even as air ran out in Medbay and the shuttle was coming.
That's the level of propriety I've come to expect from it. They always try to do things right, even when it might go wrong, because at the end of the day we're here to have fun and tell a story. It ended up being one of the greatest rounds I think I've had, and a lot of players were really happy Hyena was around to interact with them (I think they're masochistic, but don't tell 'em I said so) which was only possible due to Lilac's coordination with its team and precautionary measures. I would be more than happy to see that trend continue, and I think Lilac would set a fine example for others to follow.

I've never had a bad time with Lilac. Super chill, and not afraid to clarify things in LOOC if necessary. Always stops to chat even when the round is hectic. I don't play security, but on lowpop sometimes the crew has to help security a whole lot more, which means I have teamed up with Lilac against threats before. Always been fun! +1 from me!

From what I've seen Lilac is very experienced and level headed, in game and out of it, very polite and kind towards players, while keeping things fair and fun, Can't recall any negative experiences, I believe Lilac is and has been a positive influence in the community and would make a good HoS! +1

Lily has a long history of handling stress and conflict with grace, and being willing to step up and lead while making sure everyone is heard and included, no matter the characters involved. I have no concerns about how well that beret will fit for the whole rest of the week too.
