Bath Salts, I made an error in my PR, but is it that bad? - ithebinman - 08-24-2024

So a few months ago I made a PR to change the recipe to make bathsalts. The change was to replace mugwart (something only found in very small quantities in 1 variant of DDnoodles, to Ghost Chili Juice, the deathchem that can be made in botany.

See more here: https://github.com/goonstation/goonstation/pull/18087

The issue is that I chose GCJ as the replacer because I thought that it was one of the chems found in the "Brimstone BBQ Flavor" of DDnoodles. This would then mean that the wiki description about putting all the DDnoodles flavours in a bathtub and heat it, would still be true.
However, I was mistaken, and the actual chem in there is "El Diablo Chili" a similar chem, but not actually the same (and you can see how I got confused).

At this point in time you can no longer make minimal quantities of bathsalts by using just noodles. But, is it really that bad?
GCJ isn't easy to get as it is, and it will still take botany some effort to synthesise it.

I personally just feel bad that I kinda ruined the Discount Dan lore about it, so I'd be tempted to get GCJ changed to El Diablo chili, which still requires you to work with both botany AND the chef to make the "El Diablo" food and then extract the chili.

Let me know what you think? Should it be changed? Is it fine?     bee

Edit: it's worth noting as well that you get 90 El Diablo Chili from extracting the food, so that's not too bad as a replacement.

I think this makes sense, there's already a botany interaction with bath salts in the form of omega weed, and I feel it's nice whenever there's another reason to ask the chef for something. If the mugwort in DD products was never an issue, I can't imagine El Diablo being any different. If the issue boils down to ease of access to bath salts I'd argue GCJ is actually easier to obtain en-masse than El Diablo.

I think you might as well change it to El Diablo. I like the Discount Dan's gag, and while it takes a bit of effort, getting one bowl of El Diablo will allow you to make up to 540u of bath salts which is more than enough.
