[CLOSED PR] Remove floor melting functionality from chems - github_bot - 04-27-2021

PULL REQUEST DETAILS

About the PR
Removes the floor melting functionality from chemicals by specifying that only simulated walls can be melted in fireflash.dm

Why's this needed?
In it's current state, it's way too easy to remove huge chunks of floors with chemicals.
The time it takes for someone in chemistry to disable a department is under 1 minutes with just one chem smoke,
The time it takes to repair and repressurise that department can take over 10 minutes, and thats being very generous. The ratio between the two isn't fair and its one of the many things that makes chemistry a frankly overpowered and annoying mechanic to deal with. Making an area completely inhabitable should require more effort a chem group button. bombs and RCDs are balanced in that regard.

Changelog

Code:
changelog
(u)Carbaodox
(*)Combustible chemicals no longer melt floor tiles like butter. They only have an effect on walls now

Hard no.

Floors are exceptionally easy to repair. A standard stack of 50 metal can make 200 floor tiles. You can just use the tiles in-hand to lay down new floors in a matter of moments.

The actually annoying part is reintroducing an atmosphere to the room.

This PR does nothing to actually address the difficulty of repressurizing an area.

It's still trivial to vent an area using any number of methods, including the method this PR aims to nerf. (Just the melt the exterior walls instead of the floor). Chemistry is not disproportionately able to depressurize departments. Any assistant with a screwdriver and a crowbar can remove some windows to rapidly drain a chamber of its atmosphere.

In short, this PR seems ineffective and therefore unnecessary

Edit: this came off way more aggressive than I meant for it to, but I'm struggling to reword it while dealing with post-surgery brain

Pretty much what camryn said

This leaves RCD, borgs, and explosions as the only way to remove floor tiles and that's not good.

this will essentially make canbombs on main extinct, as (spoler alert) you need to remove some floors! and the only reliant method is by burning the floor! every other method takes too long. With recent changes they already take over 50 minutes to make, and thats once youve prepared!

If the flimsiness of floor tiles is an issue then maybe the answer is to instead make destroying floor tiles take a little while to "burn through" so that someone has a chance to save the tile.

REMOVE CHEMGROUPS 2021

making it so the only feasible way to remove floors is the rcd would just suck

even that is pretty limited - imo there should be more ways to remove floors, not less
