Stock Market Changes - Kamikaze Mongoose - 01-06-2021
The Stock Market is kind of nifty, but there are a few problems that I've noticed when I play with this feature. Just to keep it short, I'm gonna refer to the Stock Market Computers as SMCs below:
The way things are right now
- The SMCs can't be constructed, deconstructed, or moved.
- Not all maps have SMCs.
- Some maps have SMCs that aren't in public locations (screams in Manta).
- SMC scheduled events don't happen at the scheduled time.
- The UI is dated and ugly.
- There's no clocks or timers to indicate when things refresh.
- Stocks refresh like every second and require constant clicking.
- Most companies only get successful after reaching a stock price of 70 or above and companies below that tend to stay below forever. This results in like 1-3 stocks actually climbing while the rest are stuck in the mud forever because their default price was below this threshold.
Suggestions that could improve the Stonk Market experience
+ Stock Market circuit board so we can make/deconstruct SMCs.
+ Allow the stocks to refresh later. Having it update every second requires constant clicking and attention.
+ Add a timer for the refresh.
+ Add a button when buying/selling stocks to instantly maximize the number of stocks you can buy/sell.
+ Shiny new UI (with additional cupholders).
+ Loan sharks and debt collecting consequences if the borrower doesn't pay.
+ Buying bonds with variable maturity/interest rates and cashing them in later. Low risk, average reward for people who want to do things for a while and can't micromanage their money.
Wishful thinking for the far flung future of stonks
+ Stock Broker PDA Module: Gain notifications about organization events that you have stocks in and when stocks are generally trending up or down.
+ Allow brokers to influence organizations with money. Donations, bribes, espionage, sabotage, insider information, etc.
+ If you are caught bribing officials or doing insider trading, you will automatically gain an arrest record on the station.

I personally would love to see Stocks tied in with QM and the Market.
Tie different things you can order to different companies that have a stock market presence.
Negotiate deals between several suppliers to get cheaper or higher quality goods
Become a majority shareholder and directly influence the companies with share holder votes (Do you want to increase wages to 800 Credits an Hour y/n? Would you like to buy faster manufacturing machines y/n?)
Buy Nanotrasen and fire the Captain
