This severely mitigates the usefulness of the ability, in my opinion.

Agreed. It even led to me accidentally finding one as AI three minutes into the round, which is no fun for anyone. Even with resolving to not tell anyone, your laws might compel you to intervene.

I believe this is pretty much intended.
Remember to always hide in lockers and other off camera places while mimicking.

also applies to voice changers.
This wasn't always the case, by the by. These abilities were balanced back when AIs used the Track With Camera ability exclusively, and this is an unfortunate consequence of the new A-Eye dynamic, where at can click names in chat

Pretty sure the AI can still track you from that same message later on (even if you hid), which makes absolutely no sense. This definitely seems like unintended behavior.
