As of recently, ghosts don't get an examine option when they right-click for beakers and other things. Examining a person also gives a message about how you can't focus on them.
However, using Alt-Click lets you examine beakers just fine.

i tested this literally just now after seeing this post and you can still examine people and beakers just as normal as a ghost with right click

Really? I did the exact same just before posting, right above a beaker in the open, and was only given the option to point.

Even as a human, you can only examine breakers if you are right next to it

(also DID YOU KNOW? the examine verb still works when the examine option does not pop up on its right click menu!)
