Transforming in vehicle causes items to vanish - MrMagolor - 08-16-2018
If you are transformed, i.e. by feather fluid, while riding a vehicle such as the buffer, you will be moved on to the ground while your naked body is on the buffer. This causes all your items to disappear. from existence, even when re-mounting the buffer.

From what I recall items your drop or throw are also lost to the vehicle pocket dimension

Ironically this works fine with pods, in a reasonably sensible way: you can't drop/throw items out of the pod while you're in there, but once you get out they come out with you.
