Title. You are unable to change the body-type of a speedclone in the genetics scanner, because you "cannot change the body type of a non-human-like creature."
This denies them any hope of having their old shape back!

I think this is an intentional side effect to prevent people from abusing things like this.

Death is supposed to have consequence. It defeats the purpose of trying to survive if you can just be revived in seconds with no negative effects.
You can still speed clone people safely with healing chems.
