show no quarter to your foe. annihilate them and dispose of the corpse
make sure that they are dead. you will regret it later when you get jumped by them

Whenever i let someone live or halfass the body disposal its always my downfall. The lesson to be learned is to abandon all morality, rejoice in the killing, revel in the glory of the battle, and dutifully execute your fallen foe, spacing the body afterwards.

In all seriousness, forget about surviving and focus on maximizing fun. I may just be horrible (I am), but I only tend to get killed when I try to survive. My most robust moments have been where I just focused on fucking with my opponent as much as possible.
Not only is it productive, it's incredible fun.

Surprise is the most powerful weapon. Don't let the enemy have it.
Object lesson: Killing a Changeling solo.
Hide in a locker near where the ling is about to go. Hold a stun weapon in one hand and a lit welding tool in the other. As soon as they approach within striking range of the locker, move once sideways to pop the locker open, stun them and click-drag onto the locker. Switch hands via hotkey, weld locker shut the second it closes. Escort changeling to crusher.
Changelings normally win 1v1 encounters because you don't know there's a changeling in the room with you. Reverse the roles, have the changeling think its alone and the human know better, and the result changes - changeling powers be damned. The same is true of all antagonists. The biggest advantage is knowing they're in a fight before the other guy.

That reminds me, can shambling abominations break out of welded lockers? If not, they should, since they're designed to be ungodly buff, and also an emergency last resort button that can't really be used for an extended duration or quietly exited from.

That's probably a good idea. I know you're supposed to be able to break out of them normally, but that seems to r take forever. Shambom oughta at least be able to do it faster

ANYONE can break out of a welded locker, or just any locker in general
If you just keep flipping eventually the locker will disintegrate leaving you and it's contents on the floor
I did it with a fridge once
