Actually, this would be neat as it could give Construction mode more of a goal...if you can construct a station that has everything the regular one does, maybe there should be some flags set in place to save it for a potential future rotation. I'm pretty sure the Construction Mode stuff is up to date with the other servers so a lot of the hurdle of coding changes in would be taken care of

Agreed, I think this is the best way to do it

I fully agree with this thought.

Your post was reasonable, the reaction from the thread wasn't. Bleh.

Re: have a map rotation - Grek - 07-28-2015

Silly idea: Have server 2 run whatever map server 3 comes up with in construction mode.

Re: have a map rotation - Silvercloud29 - 07-29-2015

How about we LITERALLY rotate cogstation every round!?

Every round cogmap is flipped 90 degrees just to fuck with people

Re: have a map rotation - Zamujasa - 07-29-2015

I kind of agree with Cogwerks, especially given that cogmap2 is going to be a lot bigger. The current map is already really big for sparsely-populated rounds, and it would be nice to have a more condensed, open one for lowpop. Hopefully the smaller size would also mean it would take less time to constantly update/maintain.

There's actually an admin button that does this, but last time I saw it used, it lagged the fuck out of the game and everything started breaking really quickly.

It also breaks the keybinds. Fuck rotationstation.

would it be possible for the station to be chosen based on server population dynamically? say if a round gets 40 people the next round is on a larger station.

ahhh kill the necromancer!!!!!

jk, I like the idea of a smaller map for less populated servers, but it still may take a while to implement... maps taking quite a long time to make and such.

Is this what that Destiny map I've heard mentioned about? The one that was ported from else where and is being reworked on by Haine? (I think?)

Nope, that's being remade for the future RP server. Also ye, Haine's in charge of it.

babayetu83 Wrote:and have the rotation decided by cycling through them or by voting what map is next

One would think maybe a brain trust of coders have already thought about this. And discarded it due to a number of reasons that would cause it to not work:
- BYAND won't let you do this
- the fact that we have trouble maintaining two maps properly and one of those is a fucking 11x21 shuttle
- etc

It's important to note the sheer size of Cogmap2 and how unbelievably gargantuan it would be for the 10ish players on the lowpop servers. Making an alternate station with more emphasis on the departments people usually use on those servers (research, genetics, mining, etc.) would go a long way in making things a bit more hospitable. Some rewiring with the station power (or, hell, even just hotwiring the solars on those maps) would help with those scenarios where no one ever thinks to set up the damned solars so you hop into a round that's gone a long ways in and you have to start fighting an uphill battle keeping the computers powered, especially because those servers don't tend to see much use from folks with any kind of engineering savvy, in my experience.
