I would rather the laser fission fusion engine be finished, it's a much more unique concept.

well, the cool thing about the thermo-electric generator is that it actually actively uses plasma, which gives plasma an actual use other than being a fire hazard, terrorist bomb material, and general fucking menace.
so, any alternate engine proposals should include well thought out ways to integrate plasma into their use

Yeah, that seems to be pretty much the same concept but with a slightly different name. I mean, I can't be sure because apparently the laser fission engine is !!secret!! so it's not much of a nullification of the suggestion but still.
