I've always thought there should be a difference between the station headsets and the handheld radios, with the headsets being less reliable but more convenient.
There's really all sorts of neat tricks we could do with font sizes, colors, and the other visual tricks we use for radio stuff and having TCOMMs that could be tweaked and adjusted

Poor signal makes the text really small or replaces letters with weird characters.
