Bumping this thread because I like this idea. Depending on how fast you're going and the kind of rubber, it should reflect you by a variable distance.

just imagine, with matsci, a perfectly elastic rubber, so you can have 2 walls smacking you back and forth indefinitely until rescued.

But really this would be fun to have. Mechanics probably would have a lot of uses for this, and mappers could make belt hell compatible with personal transportation!

This is already feasible- Mass Drivers don't cause knockdown or damage if their range is set so they stop on an unobstructed tile. 
I toyed with this on an earlier map skeleton for cannon-based mass transit.

Should be able to make rubber mats from the nanofab, too... or say, things alloyed with rubber, like I dunno, telecrystal?

While floor tiles would accomplish this materials part much more easily it's a neat idea.

coating stuff with rubber should make it flammable
