I think just a robotic arm and a pie should do it so that you can put it in backpacks too.

Watch as an assistant's head blows off as he opens a backpack with a Russian revolver pie in it.

This sounds like a fun suggestion, but why not use robot arm + Mouse trap + pie. Mouse trap is used for most of the "Open thing and set off trap" things.

Also Heath Ledger is the best joker.

You need the box because you have to have something to hide it on.

Although honestly, why don't we just allow pies to be attached to mousetraps like grenades? It would allow for this, using existing mechanics, and be pretty fucking hilarious at the same time.
